Agama materials is software for creating PBR materials and painting 3d models. You can create materials and use them for painting models, or you can use pre-made textures.

i really was looking forward to this program, it works untill i try to paint, it just crashes.

Cool!, I recently started in the world of 3d modeling and I can't afford substance painter, this is a good alternative

Also been trying to test this program out (both v0.17 and v0.16.1). but when making a New Project, it crashes without warning

Found the issue... it can only function if you run in directX 12 with the AgamaMaterials-dx.bat file

now version 0.18 broke DX 12 and normal mode breaks the models
(sticking with version 0.17)

DX 12 fixed in 0.18.1. But anyway, could you send us an example of the broken model?

I tried installing the latest version and starting a new project, but every time I do that it crashes. What is wrong with it?

try running AgamaMaterials-dx.bat

I found this solution a while back since OP wasn't responding, but thank you though for taking the time to tell me. This will help many others too.

it's easy to paint textures in this software but I'm kind of having some problems, does this have a color picker and an option to set the max size of the texture exported as an image?

Glad I stumbled upon this - it's absolutely perfect for painting channel masks for mid-poly work, and my Substance etc muscle memory meant I could get started right away

So, probably my Windows 7 and GTX 970 are no good for this :) Still, interesting! Will share around.

You may try to run, but it may run with bugs or different unexpected behaviors. If you report errors, we will fix them.

Hello. It is starting on my "retro" system (Windows7, GTX970), I guess I can investigate and try this further.

there is a bug: i export for example albedo metalness and roughness, the output is just one image called material .png and it's a meaningless picture.

i used version 0.13 for this.

it's a great app. i used it and it looks great.

by the way i have a suggestion. how about make this software open-source...? (like blender)

i took a look in license text file and the context of 3.1 and 3.2 took my attention. it was something like this (in short):

"we cannot share this software directly to our friends locally. and we are not allowed to use this software to make this and that."

I'm a little wondering why we are so limited for the usage of this software?

also by being open-source you may get helps and improvement suggestions in code side directly (maybe).

I LOVE the new nodes!!! Polygon + Blur is a beautiful combination and opens up a lot of possibilities!


Is there any way to adjust the gradient amount on the polygon node?

By levels or histogram nodes, I think

Version 0.8 does not let me create a new project, it closes immediatly after I click "New Project"

I love this app! I would like to once again request a polygon node for the Procedural Material component of Agama Materials. Basically a node that would allow users to procedurally create things like triangles, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, and so forth. Also, a proper checkerboard node would be lovely as well that would allow users to create not only a checkerboard but also have the ability to offset it's rows/columns to create "zippered" masks for things like carbon fiber materials and so on!

Keep up the amazing work your doing. If this keeps up, this will be a day one purchase for me!

We will add it in the next version, but now you can use it as a custom node: checkers.nmsk
Just add it to your project folder.

I love this! This shows very good potential! I do have a feature request in mind, is it possible to make separate viewport/painting windows so then you can drag it to a separate device for texturing? (AKA Drawing Tablet?) Sort of like how Blender allows Shift-Click on the Viewport corner to create a separate window?

Its showing this error:

  • The program can't start because vulkan-1.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

How to fix this?

Your GPU doesn't support Vulkan api, so agama materials don't run.

It just crashes when i try to open it. Is it my pc's fault or the app's? idk so that's all i can say.

Which GPU do you have?
Also, check your C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\AgamaMaterials folder. Do you have any crash files?

I just tested it on Linux using wine and it works, using wine :P

Thi app has a GREAT feel and approach to it. I love both the painting and materials authoring workflows all rolled into one single package. Coming from both Substance Painter and Substance designer, I was looking for something to replace them once they were bought up by adobe.
Please please PLEASE keep working on this? It has a great feel that super intuitive and I don't want to see it dry up like Texture Lab or TexGraph!

I do have 3 big feature requests!


1. Node Grouping: Helps keep nodes organized.
2. Color-coded nodes by category/type.
3. Arbitrary shapes or a polygon node to all for arbitrary sided shapes such as hexagons, pentagons, etc.

Regular C++ toolset, cmake and VulkanApi
